Setting Default Entities

How to set a default entity in Hire2Hero, what changes when you do, and which features are affected by the default selection.

Many entity types in Hire2Hero support a default designation. The default entity is the system's "go-to" record for that type — used as a starting template when creating new records and pre-selected where applicable. Setting a default is a one-time setup step you do once during onboarding, and then update only when your primary records change.

What "Make Default" does

When you click Make Default on an entity, two things happen:

  1. That entity is flagged as the default for its type.
  2. Any previously set default of that type is automatically cleared — only one default can be active at a time per entity type.

A confirmation dialog appears before the change is applied — confirm to proceed. Once set, there is no undo, but you can always open a different record and click Make Default to reassign it.

The current default entity is indicated by a star icon in the entity list. You can always see which record is set as default at a glance without opening the action menu.

How to set a default

Navigate to the entity list for the entity you want to set a default on (e.g. Workforce → Placement, Workforce → Candidate, Clients → Client Corporation, Clients → Billing Contact).

Click any row to open the detail panel, or open the entity you want to make default.

Click the action menu button (the icon with three dots or the menu button in the top-right of the form).

Select Make Default from the dropdown. The entity is now marked as default, and the previous default (if any) is automatically unset.

Hover over the Make Default menu item to see a tooltip explaining what will change before you click.

Defaults by entity type

Client Corporation

The default client corporation is used as a template when creating new client corporations. Its settings (billing configuration, time rounding, etc.) are pre-filled on the new record form, saving you from re-entering common values.

Where it matters: New client corporation forms.

Billing Client Contact

The default billing client contact is used as a template when creating new billing contacts. Its settings are copied as a starting point.

Where it matters: New billing client contact forms.

Approving Client Contact

The default approving client contact is used as a template when creating new approving contacts.

Where it matters: New approving client contact forms.

Candidate

The default candidate is used as a template when creating new candidates. Its settings are copied as a starting point on the new candidate form.

Where it matters: New candidate forms.

Placement

The default placement is the primary placement for the system. Its settings are used as a starting point for new placements. When a placement is made the default, it also copies the time rounding setting from its current billing client contact onto the placement record.

Where it matters: New placement forms; system-wide placement reference.

How to change or remove a default

To change: Open the entity you want to become the new default and click Make Default. The previous default is automatically cleared.

To remove without reassigning: There is no direct "remove default" action. Create a placeholder entity (e.g. a record named "Placeholder") and set it as the default to effectively clear the meaningful default.
